Lorie Laroche practises counselling and psychotherapy in Ottawa. She holds a master’s degree in Social Work (1998) from the University of Ottawa and is a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). She is also a part-time professor of Social Work at the University of Ottawa.
Lorie is a bilingual social worker with extensive clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and adults living with challenges such as anxiety, depression, and disabilities. Her specialty is in helping people of all ages deal with ADHD-related challenges. These challenges can include issues with time management, procrastination, social challenges, and impulsivity. She engages with clients utilizing a variety of therapeutic approaches, drawing upon cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, attachment therapy, and family systems theory.
Over the course of her career as a social worker and therapist, she has worked in a wide variety of settings. These include child protection, crisis services, medical social work, first responders, and university students. In addition, she has been an Affiliate Trauma Counsellor with Morneau-Shepell (Employee Assistance provider) since 2004 where she works with employees impacted by events that could affect wellbeing in the workplace. These events include robberies, terminations and lay-offs, corporate mergers, job-site or off-site deaths, suicides, etc. She is also a workshop facilitator with Homewood Health.
In addition to her clinical work, Lorie is also very interested in scuba diving and in research on mental health issues.
