Suzanne McDermid
B.A.(Hons), BEd, OCT, MSW, RSW, CPT(Q), Registered Social Worker
Suzanne offers Counselling/Psychotherapy services, as well as social work services as a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist.
Suzanne is a registered social worker, as well as a certified secondary school teacher, practicing in-person in Sturgeon Falls and virtually throughout Ontario.
Suzanne has an undergraduate degree in Law and Sociology, with a concentration in Criminology and Criminal Justice, as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Social Work degree. She is registered with the Ontario Association of Social Work, the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, the Ontario College of Teachers, and as a student with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy while she completes specialist training in play therapy.
Suzanne’s professional experience includes working as a teacher for 20 years in mainstream, youth custody, special education, and post-secondary settings. In addition, Suzanne has worked for community based, child welfare and children’s mental health organizations, and has over 10 years of experience supporting individuals with an ABI/TBI as a rehabilitation support worker.
Suzanne moved to Northern Ontario during the pandemic and now has a growing practice in Sturgeon Falls where she provides psychotherapy and social work services to children, teens, and adults. Her approach is client centered, strength based, wholistic and individualized. Suzanne enhances traditional therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT and narrative therapy with play therapy techniques (for her younger clients) and canine-assisted therapy (upon request) for her older clients.
Suzanne believes that at times we can all benefit from some support, but that individual differences are to be nurtured and celebrated. She provides a relaxed, informal environment where clients of all ages and abilities can explore individual challenges in a supportive environment.
