Taking time away from work and family is a significant and courageous commitment, and for many an important step on their journey to wellness.
Transitioning to a residential treatment program encourages an immersive experience towards mental and physical wellness. Support and care can be offered for a variety of issues including trauma, addiction to substances, behavioural addiction, or a mood disorder that is impacting an individual’s ability to thrive in their daily life at home and/or at work. Treatment programs may be available within an individual’s community or may require travel to facilitate access to residential care.
Residential treatment programs offer specialized therapeutic interventions, structure, a daily routine, and consistency – all of which support positive change and growth. This type of treatment approach offers a safe environment and supervision from a team of professionals, often from a variety of disciplines, who work collaboratively to coordinate a customized plan of care.
Residential treatment can also benefit individuals who require intensive support for mental health concerns, substance use challenges, or those who have several stressors in their life. For instance, someone with a substance use challenge, who has a history of trying to stop or reduce harm on their own, may benefit from a residential setting where triggers can be limited for a period of time and a solid recovery plan developed. Many of the residential programs Encompas has partnered with also provide specific programming exclusive to First Responders.
With your consent, each program has committed to ensuring your Care Manager and Clinician(s) are apprised of your progress, to ensure cohesive, timely care when the program is completed. This can include setting up an appointment with your therapist the same week of discharge, connecting you with peer support groups, and providing you with online courses.
Treatment Screening Assessment
Before any referral is made for residential or intensive outpatient treatment programs, we ensure that the program we refer clients to are clinically a good match for the mental health challenges being experienced, the goals of the client, and the exclusion criteria for the preferred program. Therefore, prior to referral, a Treatment Screening Assessment is completed. Here is some information about the Treatment Screening Assessment:
- Completed by the client’s current mental health practitioner (e.g., psychologist, social worker, etc.) or, if the client doesn’t have a mental health practitioner, then by a Dalton Associates psychologist;
- Typically takes 1-2 hours to complete;
- Can be conducted in-person, over the telephone, or via virtual clinic – depending on the client’s location, and who is conducting the screening and their location; and,
- Will make recommendations as to treatment programs that would be a good match for the client, and other treatment recommendations.
If a Treatment Screening Assessment does not recommend the client’s preferred program, the reasoning will be discussed with the client in detail, and alternate recommendations will be made.
