Brooke is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) who completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to completing her MSW, Brooke completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo, majoring in sociology and specializing in crime and deviance. Brooke has always had a particular interest in working with first responders and their families. Having worked in custody facilities for 5+ years, Brooke has firsthand experience working with first responders and later on worked as a first responder herself via mental health crisis teams. Prior to entering into private practice, Brooke held positions in a variety of accredited mental health agencies, both with children, parents, families and adults supporting them in achieving greater mental wellness. Specifically, Brooke has held positions providing both crisis response and clinical services to individuals in custodial facilities, residential treatment programs and community mental health settings. In addition to working in private practice, Brooke continues to hold a position working in community mental health. These experiences combined provide Brooke with a unique understanding of common challenges and mental health struggles first responders and their families experience on a day-to-day basis. Brooke is passionate about enhancing mental wellness by providing first responders and their families with support and strategies to maintain mental wellness and reach optimal family functioning. She has extensive experience treating anxiety and related disorders, emotion regulation challenges, depression, OCD, self-esteem, ADHD, relationship difficulties, self-harming behaviours and traumatic stress. Brooke’s practice is informed by evidence-based models of care including attachment, development, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-based approaches. Brooke always supports individuals through a compassionate, non-judgemental lens, where they are provided with supportive listening, validation, and somebody to bear witness for them in their experiences. In working with Brooke, individuals will work as a team to identify barriers, build on strengths, and gain insight and attunement for a holistic approach.
