This therapist provides mental health counselling under their own license, as well as practices under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist or Registered Psychological Associate. If you are seeking supervised psychological services, an initial appointment must first be made with the supervisor to confirm appropriateness of fit.

Karen Skinulis is a Registered Psychotherapist providing counselling and therapy in Richmond Hill under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist or Registered Psychological Associate, all of whom are members of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. She is also a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).

Karen specializes in supporting parents, families, adolescents, and individuals with a wide range of concerns, including parenting across all developmental stages, child behaviour, self-esteem, communication, anxiety and depression, divorce, separation and co-parenting, school-related challenges, and general teen issues. She understands that parenting is both the most important and one of the most difficult roles in our society—and that the challenges facing parents today are more complex than ever.

For more than twenty years, Karen has worked as a speaker, writer, and parent educator with a commitment to helping parents develop the tools, strategies, and psychological insight they need to be effective and confident in raising their children. She follows an Adlerian approach, an evidence-informed framework that offers a comprehensive understanding of child psychology and family dynamics. She values this approach not only for its effectiveness but also for its emphasis on social equality and mutual respect.

In her work with clients, Karen focuses on helping parents better understand their child or teen’s behaviour, as well as the underlying dynamics within the family system. She offers concrete suggestions, tools, and strategies designed to promote cooperation, respect, and more harmonious relationships at home. She recognizes that every parent’s long-term goal is to raise a child who is responsible, caring, independent, and emotionally well—and she feels privileged to assist families in pursuing that goal.

Karen has co-authored several parenting and teacher resources and has been featured as a guest parenting expert in various media outlets, including The Globe and Mail, CBC, Global TV, and City Life Magazine
