Michael Doris is a Social Worker, providing mental health counselling/psychotherapy based in Peterborough, Ontario. Currently offering virtual and in-person counselling.
Beginning his post-secondary education at Trent University acquiring a BA in Psychology, Michael completed an Honours Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) from Renison College at the University of Waterloo. His Master of Social Work degree (MSW) was completed at the University of Toronto as part of the Mental Health and Health specialization program. He is a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Work (OCSWSSW) as well as the Ontario Association of Social Work (OASW.)
He has been actively engaged in the field of individual mental health and substance use counselling for over seven years, specializing in trauma counselling and compassion fatigue counselling. He is a certified Clinical Traumatologist and Compassion Fatigue Specialist through the Traumatology Institute in Toronto, Ontario. CBT-E, cognitive behavioural therapy for eating disorders is also a specialization. Among others, Michael is experienced in providing both CBT and DBT therapies for a variety of life challenges such as depression, anxiety, stress, worry and grief.
Michael assumes a non-judgmental and strengths-based perspective when working with clients. He focuses on staying client-centred, ensuring clients feel comfortable and in control of the pace of counselling along with enhancing their inner resilience, independence and coping skill development.
