Both Portals are proactive online wellness tools designed for First Responder professionals and their family members to assess, track, and monitor their mental health and wellbeing at all stages in their career from newly recruited through to retirement, as well as through varied personal and family stages.

Elizabeth is a First Responder spouse of both a Canadian Armed Forces reservist and Police Sergeant. Her husband of 20 years, Andrew Gough CD is a Military Police/Close Protection Operator and medically retired Police Sergeant with London Police Service. Together they founded V-EH! Veterans and Everyday Heroes in 2019 – a federal not-for-profit organization. They have spoken on a number of platforms, sharing their journey through an OSI to offer their reflections

In this incredible session, we had the privilege of hosting Joe Roberts, famously known as The Skidrow CEO, along with Retired OPP Constable Scott MacLeod. Their paths crossed in a moment of crisis back in 1991 when Scott responded to Joe’s distress call, initially perceiving him as “just another addict going to jail.” Little did he know that this encounter would spark a life-changing journey for Joe, propelling him from the streets of Vancouver as a homeless skid row addict to becoming an esteemed business and community leader.

About the Speaker:

Derek Banks started his career with the OPP in 1995. He has served at the Mount Forest, Orillia, and Huronia West Detachments.  He spent 16 years with the Emergency Response Team leaving in 2015 to return to general patrol duties as a platoon Sergeant. Derek took a leave of absence in 2016 to focus on his personal wellbeing.  Since returning to duty, Derek has become involved with Peer Support work, mentoring and shares his story

Did you know that, similar to the US, 1 in 10 Canadians talked with a healthcare professional about their alcohol use in the past year?  Yet for the most part, medical professionals have under-communicated the harms associated with everyone’s favorite socially accepted substance of choice.

But the latest scientific evidence has revealed a new sobering truth: alcohol is worse than we thought. The just released guidelines state that to remain within the low-risk range of consumption, people should drink a maximum of two drinks each week.
